A pond in the woods. Trees overhanging, create reflections in the water, patterns and ripples form on the surface in the afternoon breeze. Around me the sound of woodland birds.  I have walked past this pond hundreds of times. It is a place of sanctuary - a secret garden.

The Secret Garden

The pond lies deep
unknown to those who pass her by
on the other path
to the top of the hill

A secret place, a refuge
shared only with my dog who stirs her up
thirst quenched
body cooled.

With each passing different patterns emerge
​in this, my secret garden.

A place to play, and stop awhile.
Wind and water do their part,
transforming surfaces
from
leaf, branch, tree, bud
rain, drop,
light.

Giving pleasure, enriching life.
