BOOKS
Shore - a photo book
Shore - a book created as part of the Shore Life project selected for the exhibition "To Shine a Light | Who Dared to Dream " at the Royal Photographic Society 2024.
Abstract images created with found objects from the sea shore, along with words written by the author and photographer, Caroline Fraser.
21cm x 21cm. Soft cover. Perfect bound.
The book ‘Shore’ is a component of a larger project 'Shore Life' based on the sea shore and salt marsh at Rye, East Sussex.
The effects of local sewage spills, the fishing industry and day trippers to the sea shore are evidenced. The images are made using multiple layers, both in-camera and using the digital darkroom. I photograph the objects that I find, and then collect them for disposal. Items found include waste from sewage plant discharges, ghost fishing gear ( discarded fishing line and rope), plastic cups, plastic cutlery, plastic bags, beach shoes and other picnic waste.

Dragon Book 1
Dragon Book 1 is a dragon scale bound book, using an ancient Chinese method of binding that allows the pages to flip individually. Each page is glued in place individually.
The pages are inked with calligraphy ink on Kaskad Vellum paper. They are bound to a flexible black sheet of Mingeishi kozo paper. The book rolls around a hollow wood stem with ribbon thread. It is contained in a black and burnt orange card box for safe transportation. It can be hung from a wall, or arranged in myriad formations on a flat surface.
The book is unique. Edition of 1. 2022
It has been selected for the Society of Women Artists annual exhibition 2023, and is therefore currently unavailable for sale. I am taking commissions for further Dragon Books. If you would like one made especially for you please contact me directly by clicking this link.
